Job Summary

 

The Accountant will be experienced with QuickBooks and Excel, bank reconciliations and managing financial reporting. Preferably has worked with nonprofit organizations and on federal grants. This position will largely support the organization’s NYC team and office, but will also liaise with field offices on an as needed basis related to finance.

 

Responsibilities and Duties

 


Bookkeeping & Finance:

  • General Bookkeeping
  • Monitor/manage accounts payable: process and apply payments to invoices, reviewing for approvals and appropriate coding
  • Assist in processing payroll for part-time staff and schedule bi-weekly payroll for full-time staff (bi-weekly is outsourced)
  • Provide support to finance staff abroad on day-to-day financial matters as well as monthly reporting and accounting entries.
  • Assist in program and year-end audits and financial statements.
  • Assist Program Directors in the preparation of monthly financial reports.
  • Ensure knowledge on financial compliance related to any active contracts or contribution agreements.
  • Preparing checks for signature
  • Follow-up on past due accounts
  • Able to perform analysis on G/L as needed
  • Manage bank, cash and credit card reconciliations
  • Maintain vendor and payment files
  • Manage staff time sheets through ClickTime
  • Monitor internal controls.

 

Core Competencies

 


Education

  • CPA or equivalent experience.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Able to work virtually, and with remote colleagues
  • Self-starter, solution-oriented, can handle multiple tasks with minimum direction and meet deadlines.

Functional Competencies

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, non-profit organization experience a plus
  • Experience with grants (foundation, federal)
  • Understanding of inter-office funding allocation

Technical Competencies

  • Proficiency in MS Office – intermediate to Advanced level – in particular excel and its full range of functions;
  • Mastery of QuickBooks.

Compensation

Salary commensurate with experience.
