Selen Ucak is a consultant with Building Markets, working with the organization to launch its programming in Turkey, focused on the Syrian crisis response. She is a social impact professional focused on global development, social innovation, and entrepreneurship, in particular in Turkey, the Middle East and Africa. Selen most recently served as Executive Director of The American Turkish Society, a preeminent nonprofit dedicated to enhancing economic and cultural relations between Turkey and the United States. Previously, she was a founding consultant for Turkish Philanthropy Funds, the first diaspora community foundation for Turkey. She was also the co-author of a pioneering study on social entrepreneurship; program officer at Tiger Foundation; and assistant director/research fellow at Jerome Levy Forecasting Center. During her graduate studies, Selen was a teaching assistant in social entrepreneurship; an organizer of Global Social Venture Competition; and a business development intern at Endeavor Global. Selen holds an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School as the first Tashman Turkish Fellow and a B.A. in Economics/International Affairs, summa cum laude, from Colorado College. She speaks Turkish, English and French.
