Meet James Rogers: Call Center Assistant
One thing we’re keen to do on Building Markets’ country blogs is help you get to know the people behind each project’s success. We like to talk about success, but we also want to showcase the people who are directly responsible for it. With our newest project in Liberia ramping up, we’re taking the opportunity to do that right from the start. Every Monday and Thursday we will introduce you to a member of the team in Liberia through this blog. Read on for one profile below.
It’s almost like the chicken and the egg riddle. “The prospect that local businesses will grow is the reason that there are many international organizations in Liberia that are willing to help them grow,” says James Rogers.
No matter which came first, Liberia’s economic prospects look positive, which is one reason why so many of our national staff are so positive about the Sustainable Marketplace Initiative in Liberia.
Along with Linda Mataldi-Curtis, James makes up the Building Markets call center team, which focuses on re-verifying the information businesses provide for the online supplier directory. Re-verification takes place on a rolling basis starting six months after the business is initially listed on the directory. It is important that the information on the directory is up-to-date so buyers are able to contact the right businesses for their needs.
James was a business student, and he believes in the ability of businesses to benefit Liberia, describing himself as someone with a “strong love for the business sector of my country.” Previously he worked for the NGO, Project Concern International.
James is a sporty kind of guy in his spare time. Except for when he is reading (his favorite authors including John Grisham and Dan Brown), you will find him playing soccer and basketball. To any newcomer or visitor to Liberia, he says, he or she will be surprised at how beautiful the landscape is.
