Meet Augustine Ousman Jalloh: (the new) Administration & Finance Manager

We like to talk about success, but we also want to showcase the people who are directly responsible for it. With our newest project in Liberia ramping up, we’re taking the opportunity to do that right from the start. Every Monday and Thursday we will introduce you to a member of the team in Liberia through this blog. Read on for one profile below.
Augustine Ousman Jalloh has extensive experience working in Finance and Administration. He’s worked for the government of Liberia as an Administrative Assistant and a Budget Analyst. He then started at the American Refugee Committee as an Admin/Finance Assistant and rose to the post of financial controller. He’s also worked in Finance and Administration at a variety of other NGOs, including Population Services International, ACDI/VOCA and now Building Markets. All in all, he has over fifteen years of experience!
For anyone visiting Liberia, he recommends knowing a few things before you come. Visitors should understand the history of Liberia, “so as to get a clear picture of the origin of Liberia,” and know that the Liberian economy “is largely run by foreigners.” This, he says, is a challenge for Liberia because “we rely largely on imports for survival.” But he also notes that this is a place for opportunity because “the imports and production are not meeting the demand of consumers.”
He also reminds visitors not to forget about the country’s beautiful, natural beaches.
