Today marks the beginning of the world’s biggest annual celebration of entrepreneurship. From competitions to workshops to networking gatherings, Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) connects participants with collaborators, mentors, and even investors. Building Markets is thrilled to be hosting Myanmar’s fifth annual GEW – and with more than 50 partners and 60 events scheduled across the country, it promises to be the most exciting, yet.

Now is the perfect time to encourage aspiring innovators to start new companies in Myanmar. With a new government in place, the implementation of economic reforms, a young population, broad adoption of technology, and abundant natural resources, the country is expected to experience significant growth in the coming years. Positioning local entrepreneurs to capitalize on new business opportunities will be key to fueling much needed job creation and ensuring that growth is inclusive and sustainable. A new investment law expected to be enacted in 2017 will support this effort by making it easier to do business in the country for both foreign and local firms.

We are also excited to announce that with the generous support of USAID, Building Markets recently launched the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN) in Myanmar. GEN is a nation-wide platform that builds on GEW by connecting entrepreneurs to initiatives and resources, year around. The Network includes 160 member countries, 20,000 partners and 10 million people. The establishment of the GEN is an important milestone in forming a sustainable ecosystem that can better support entrepreneurial success in Myanmar.

GEW launches today, November 14th and ends on November 20th. This year’s theme is Youth, Women & Investment and will include:

  • A weeklong scavenger hunt
  • Business competitions, fairs, exhibitions and debates
  • Workshops with topics ranging from financial management to advertising in the digital age.

Our team can’t wait to meet and celebrate Myanmar’s newest innovators. Please join us!
