Who is GiveDirectly?
- GiveDirectly is an International NGO specialized in the delivery of unconditional and unrestricted cash transfers to people living in poverty and people affected by emergencies. GiveDirectly is implementing this program in Türkiye via their partnership with Building Markets.
Who is this program for?
- The program is targeted at vulnerable households living in Gaziantep, Hatay or Sanliurfa who have been affected by the earthquake.
- Upon completion of the sign up form, Building Markets will review the provided information and contact you for further details. Provided information will be verified to determine eligibility for the program.
I have relocated after the earthquake, can I still apply?
- Yes – you can submit the application even if you are temporarily living in a different area.
How do I know if I am eligible
- Building Markets will review the information provided and might call you in the next few weeks to collect additional information. Once provided information has been verified, you will receive a message to inform you of the outcome of your application.
What type of support will be provided?
- A cash transfer of 9.000 TL will be provided to eligible households.
- You will be able to spend the transfer on anything you deem necessary to at this difficult time.
When and how will the transfer be delivered?
- If you’re eligible, you will receive a message from Building Markets informing you about the expected date of the transfer.
- The cash transfer will be delivered within four weeks from the submission of your application.
- If you have a bank account, the transfer will be delivered to you via bank transfer. Otherwise, you will receive instructions on how to collect your transfer.
- Information related to the transfer modality will be communicated at a later stage, after your application has been reviewed.
Will I need to pay back the cash transfer?
- No – the cash transfer provided in this program is a cash grant, not a loan.
Am I required to spend the money in a certain way?
- No – you can spend the transfer however you choose and on whatever you think it’s most needed to improve your livelihood. No one should tell you how you should spend your money.
Am I supposed to pay anything to participate in the program?
- No – participation in the program is free and not subject to any fees. Building Markets and GiveDirectly will never ask you for any form of payment or favor to enroll you in the program. I know other households and people who are in need, can they participate?
- No – participation in the program is by invitation only and targeted at households who have been explicitly contacted.
- We recommend you refer them to the Government program or to other NGOs who are offering similar programs.
