Job Summary

The Freelance Writer is responsible for generating, contributing to and supporting the development of communications and research material for the work of Building Markets in Turkey.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Support the production of knowledge and research products produced by the Building Markets Country Office, including drafting reports, copy editing, and finalizing drafts;

  • Collaborate with team members to generate program/SME success stories for various communications channels;   

  • Write business profiles, bios, and value proposition statements for businesses featured on the Building Markets matchmaking platform;  

  • Ensure newsletter content is regularly compiled and shared with HQ;  

  • Curate and prepare content for online and offline communications, in collaboration with relevant technical input;

  • Provide input to strategies, publications, and other technical documents, to ensure clear and concise messaging;

  • Provide recommendations for disseminating research findings through communications streams;

  • Support website content, as needed.

Reporting Lines

The Freelance Writer reports to the Chief of Party on work plan and deliverables, in close collaboration with Research Manager and Business Manager and in line with overall guidance and direction from Headquarters.

Required Qualifications
  • University degree in Business, International Development, Journalism, or a related sector;

  • Experienced and/or passionate about private-sector approaches to development and Building Markets’ mission;

  • Demonstrated experience in formal writing processes;

  • Native English speaker;

  • Attention to detail;

  • Flexibility in schedule and ability to meet critical deadlines, while maintaining accuracy and quality;

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills;

  • Authorization to work in Turkey.

Desired Qualifications
  • Arabic and/or Turkish language skills;

  • Private sector experience and/or experience with business research and writing;

  • Experience in not-for-profit organizations and familiarity with their communications strategies and policies;

  • Understanding of Turkish and MENA markes.

Salary commensurate with experience.
