One thing we’re keen to do on Building Markets’ country blogs is help you get to know the people behind each project’s success. We like to talk about success, but we also want to showcase the people who are directly responsible for it. With our newest project in Liberia ramping up, we’re taking the opportunity to do that right from the start. Every Monday and Thursday we will introduce you to a member of the team in Liberia through this blog. Read on for one profile below.

Jackson Gargar is another member of the business verification team, who visits business owners every day and collects important information for the online business directory. It’s much different than his previous job as an IT assistant. “It is my dream to be a part of the peace-building process and Building Markets has given me the opportunity,” Jackson says. “Building Markets has good activities that help develop the economies of countries coming out of war.”

Jackson thinks that the local market is not yet strong enough. “It needs help to increase the buying rate and to build the management capacity of businesses,” he says.

The most important thing for a visitor to know about Liberia is when the dry and rainy seasons occur. “The dry season lasts from December to April. During this time it is very hot,” he explains. “The rainy season, from May to October, is the time in which you find lots of water and mud on the roads.”

When he’s not thinking about economic development or the seasons, Jackson can be found listening to music, watching soccer and eating his favorite meal of rice and fried potato leaves.
