Meet Robert Sloan: Verification Assistant

One thing we’re keen to do on Building Markets’ country blogs is help you get to know the people behind each project’s success. We like to talk about success, but we also want to showcase the people who are directly responsible for it. With our newest project in Liberia ramping up, we’re taking the opportunity to do that right from the start. Every Monday and Thursday we will introduce you to a member of the team in Liberia through this blog. Read on for one profile below.

Robert Sloan has a lot of experience working with international organizations and internationally in neighboring Ghana. His degrees, from university in Ghana, include Computer Science and Business Management. All of this prepared him to be a Verification Assistant at Building Markets.

“I decided to work for Building Markets because of its humanitarian assistance in economic recovery, research and operational innovations,” Robert says. Robert agrees with his other colleagues at Building Markets, in that the strength of the local marketplace is currently quite low. “The best opportunities for local businesses to grow is to empower them financially through micro-finance.”

Robert eagerly describes Liberians as curious and friendly. “Liberians love strangers, are friendly and are eager to learn new things,” he says.

When Robert has time off from work, he likes to listen to music and eat his favorite local food, called Bitter ball Torgborgee, a type of tiny eggplant in palm oil sauce.
