Ainsley Butler

Global Head of Programs

Ainsley is a huge fan of social enterprises, organizations and businesses that benefit society.  She leads Building Markets’ program implementation, working with colleagues around the world.

Ainsley joined us from UL, where she was Responsible Sourcing Program Manager, providing advisory services to corporations and brands in supply chain accountability and risk, raw materials traceability, and supplier capacity building.

Prior to this, Ainsley worked in the international development sector for 12 years, including at Building Markets. She has led the implementation of several economic development, local content and rights-based programs in fragile and conflict-affected states, including the creation of the first standard to improve the socio-economic conditions of artisanal diamond mining. She has conducted economic impact research for the OECD, the World Bank, the United Nations, NATO, the Governments of Afghanistan, Canada, Germany, UK and the US State Department and participated as an official observer of the Kimberley Process.

Ainsley is a graduate of the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris, was a visiting graduate fellow at New York University and holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree from Carleton University. She is currently Joint Chair of the Responsible Jewellery Council’s Standards Committee.
