Isik Oguzertem joined Building Markets in 2016 as Country Director for Turkey, after working in the Middle East with the United Nations and international non-governmental organizations on post-conflict recovery and refugee responses. He previously oversaw the delivery of educational support services to tens of thousands of Syrian and host community children, and managed multi-million dollar portfolios of education and protection initiatives in southern Turkey with Save the Children International. Prior to this, Isik worked with UNICEF and UNDP on displacement responses in Syria and local economic recovery initiatives in Iraq. In his current role, he advises on engagement in Turkey with refugee entrepreneurs, business communities, and international stakeholders. He received his Master of Science in Development Management from the London School of Economics, is fluent in English and Turkish, and speaks intermediate Arabic.
