John Mackie

Board Member

John Mackie, JD (UC Berkeley Law), has had a highly diversified career as a lawyer and leader in the public and private sectors.

John began his legal career with the City of San Francisco before moving to the Association of Bay Area Governments and then to the Governor’s Office for the State of California. He completed his public service tenure as Deputy Secretary of Business, Transportation and Housing for the State. John moved into private legal practice in 1984, where he eventually joined the firm of Bronson, Bronson & McKinnon in 1990 and established that Firm’s wine and food practice. He currently practices as a Partner at Carle, Mackie, Power & Ross LLP, which he helped found in 1998 and managed for a number of years. There, he focuses on wine and food law, business organizations and finance, mergers and acquisitions, real estate development, and land use regulation. His clients include startups, well-established corporations, investment firms and financial institutions, agricultural concerns, manufacturers, retailers, and non-profits.

John has served as a board member, trustee, or founding board member with over a dozen organizations and as a pro bono legal advisor to many more.
