The Impact of COVID-19 on Syrian Businesses in Turkey

2021

English Arabic (Executive Summary)

This report analyzes the effects of COVID-19 on Syrian-owned and other local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Türkiye. Between July and August 2020, Building Markets conducted a randomized survey of its business network in Türkiye to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on the country’s SMEs. 348 Syrian-owned businesses were analyzed and compared to baseline data collected by the organization before the pandemic began, providing unique insights into how SMEs were managing once the countrywide lockdown had largely been lifted. The purpose of the research was to provide an overview of the Turkish market and to identify opportunities to enable and accelerate the growth of refugee and migrant-owned SMEs.
